2745 Young Street | Harbor Bay | Alameda

Listed @ $749,000 | HOA Dues $175/month

Built in 1989, and situated in Harbor Bay Isle’s park-like Normandy HOA, this beautiful and contemporary home has been renovated throughout. The home is light and airy, with vaulted ceilings, and includes a living room, dining room, remodeled kitchen, and half bath on the main level, as well as direct access to the two car garage. The upper level has a master suite, with a renovated bathroom, and second bedroom with a full bathroom en suite.

Established in 1988, Normandy is a park-like neighborhood of single-family homes on Bay Farm Island that is situated a short distance from the Harbor Bay Ferry to San Francisco, the shoreline, and the famous SF Bay Trail with fabulous San Francisco city views. A major design criterion by Normandy’s original planners was the planting of hundreds of trees to create the feel of an “urban forest”, and these mature trees are now an integral part of the community’s lovely aesthetic appeal.

The entrance of 2745 Young St. is set back from the street, guaranteeing privacy, while a covered front porch shields visitors from inclement weather. Lush, drought resistant landscaping includes lavender, rosemary, and ornamental Japanese maples. Inside, an open floor plan offers soaring ceilings, and creates a feeling of light and spaciousness. The living and dining rooms have beautiful, hardwood floors, plenty of windows that flood the space with sunlight, and a vaulted living room ceiling that measures approximately sixteen feet. A wood-burning fireplace is centrally placed between the open living and dining rooms, and sliding glass doors in the dining room open to the spacious backyard patio.

The stylish kitchen has been updated to include stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and shaker-style cabinets that resemble teak and feature under-cabinet lighting. A large window over the extra wide stainless steel sink brings in natural light and ventilation, and an understated, white subway tile backsplash has a decorative translucent glass and marble tile border.  An updated powder room is located next to the attached garage, completing this main floor.

The home’s two bedroom suites are upstairs, situated off of an open landing that overlooks the living and dining rooms. The spacious, sunny master bedroom suite has approximately eleven-foot vaulted ceilings, berber-style carpeting and a walk-in closet with built-in Elfa closet organizers. The en-suite master bath includes a private WC and a beautiful teak vanity that is topped with creamy marble. A large, walk-in shower has a translucent glass subway tile surround and a river rock floor, and the travertine tile floor is warmed with radiant heat.

A second large bedroom on this level also offers an en-suite bathroom, and features carpeting, approximately eleven-foot vaulted ceilings, tall, dramatic windows, a built-in cabinet and a generous closet. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination, a ceramic tile floor, and a window with privacy glass that provides natural light.

Created with a small village feel in mind, Normandy offers a grassy park and community pool, both of which are only one block away. Close to top performing public schools, numerous commuter options and Oakland International Airport, this light and airy house is the perfect place to call home.

Alameda was once a peninsula connected to the Oakland docks. In 1902, a canal was dredged to enable easier shipping access, and that turned Alameda into an island. A little off the beaten track, Alameda has a laid-back vibe all its own. Despite its 80,000 residents, there's still a small-town feeling in Alameda.

A 4th of July Parade, complete with horse-drawn carriages, embodies the small-town feel in Alameda, which has preserved much of its Victorian housing stock, cottages, and central, walkable shopping district along Park Street. The Alameda Theater on Park Street was restored to its art deco glory. Civic pride runs high here; formerly the Carnegie Library, the Alameda Free Library was transformed into a multimillion-dollar showplace that earned a Silver LEED certification. Kids play soccer on former parade grounds of the converted army barracks. Crown Memorial State Beach and Shoreline Drive attract wind surfers.

With more than 10,000 buildings constructed before 1930, there is a rich and varied architectural heritage in the area playing a role in Alameda's real estate market conditions. Historic Queen Anne's, more than 1,500 ornately decorated Victorians, and California Craftsmans are some of the most desirable homes here along its tree-lined streets.
